I’m Roya and I’m a native speaker from the UK. I have been teaching English as a foreign language for several years in different European locations. Now based in Delft, South Holland, I created English Voice and am continuing to take on students.

Key Teaching Qualifications:

-University of Cambridge ESOL Delta – Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. One of the best known advanced TEFL/TESOL* qualifications in the world.

-University of Cambridge RSA Celta – Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. An internationally recognised introductory qualification for new teachers.

I have had the opportunity to study and work with several teaching approaches. I favour an eclectic approach to teaching which combines elements from different methods in order to give every individual the support they need on their language journey. The foundation of every course is a communicative approach which helps students share their thoughts and feelings in a meaningful and authentic manner. In addition there is a focus on learner autonomy which gives learners the tools they need to continue working on their English long after their course is finished.

Teaching experience:

London, UK 2004-2006

I trained at LanguageLink, completing the Cambridge University Celta certificate. Work in central London involved teaching large classes of foreign university students at the British Study Centres London, as well as working as a summer supply teacher at Edwards Language School.

Geneva, Switzerland 2006-2010

Four years in Geneva allowed me to specialise in teaching business English in major banks, international organisations and local government. It was here that I first got involved in preparing students for examinations such as the First Certificate, CAE, Proficiency and the BEC business English exams all offered by Cambridge English Language Assessment. I also gained experience with the TOEFL test. There were also projects such as writing material for a local private school, SL&C Supercomm, and delivering cooking workshops designed to help learners improve their English in a social setting. Teaching English to small children was an additional fun and valuable learning experience.

Hamburg, Germany 2011-2012

Working freelance in Hamburg gave me an opportunity to create links in the local community. As well as teaching private individuals, collaborating with the scientific institution Desy was a highlight. During this time I also earned the Cambridge University Delta diploma and was trained as a Celta Teacher Trainer.

Delft, The Netherlands 2013-Present

I set up my company English Voice in order to continue teaching in a flexible way in Zuid Holland. I have collaborated with private language schools here, such as Masterclass English in Rotterdam. I have established a classroom in the Hof van Delft and enjoy teaching adults and children in my own space. In addition I have started supporting new families by running baby sign language workshops in English in Delft.

*TEFL stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language. TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
